Every year in the spring we go to Victoria to participate in an outdoor painting event organized by Opus Framing, an art supply store with several BC outlets. This year we had very mild spring weather except on the day of this event; a cold north wind made it necessary to have an extra layer of clothing and to find a spot that was protected from the wind. In spite of the weather there was a large turnout of people of all ages who enjoy painting outside. One gets 4 hours to finish an original sketch on a canvas or paper of 8″ × 10″ in size; a bit small but workable with pen&ink and a small watercolour brush.
I settled in at a coffee shop, QV Cafee and Bakery, with a good cup of coffee and nice pastries, AND a good view of the iconic entrance to Chinatown to make this picture.
These competitions are fun; I love the challenge and time flies when you try your very best to put something like this together from scratch within the imposed time limit. On top of all, I was rewarded with 2nd place in the adult category by a jury of three local artists. Photos of the activities, participants and their work will probably be displayed on the Opus Framing website during the coming week.
Thanks to Opus Framing and their staff who conduct this outing every year. We will likely return again next spring.
