Nanaimo Heritage Days

May 21 and 22 are termed Heritage days, formerly referred to as Empire Days, a good reason to sketch heritage buildings. The retail building at the corner of Fitzwilliam and Wesley street is called the S&W Apartment Block in the City’s heritage register. The accompanying  photograph in this register shows very different colours than what is there now.

The other building in the same area called “The old City Quarters” is the recently renovated train station, currently in use as a bar and restaurant, as passenger trains are no longer running on the E&N railway. I sketched the back of the building facing the railway. There is two hour parking permitted on both sides of Selby Street, which makes it is difficult to find a convenient vantage spot for the front elevation, unless you work from your car yourself. However this time of the year I want to sit oufside.
