This section of downtown is referred to as the “Old City Quarter” as it has a number of original buildings and features that go back to the coal mining days.
This group of small buildings stepping down a steep sloping section of Fitzwilliam were renovated not so long ago resulting in this appealing cluster of retail stores. The owners received a heritage reward from the City of Nanaimo for their work.
I don’t have a favourite color or pigment, but sometimes one can get hung up on a particular colour; this time it is teal, resulting from an exhibition at Iron Oxide with the motto : “Teal’s a big deal”. Several buildings along this street are painted with this coulor and I have to mix it from blue and green as I carry only a basic dozen or so of pigments.
One more from the same corner showing the teal builing and the St. Andrews church.
