Fitzwilliam Street

Fitzwilliam is the main street of the area in Nanaimo referred to as the Old City Quarter.

It has many heritage buildings which makes it attractive to walk through, to visit the many attractive stores and to relax at a restaurant or coffee shop.

I have also established some spots where I can sit down and sketch this street and there are several more vantage points to explore. The street has a significant incline from East to West.

Looking East works best in the morning when the buildings have a shadow side and a lighted front. There is a bench at the intersection with Selby Street.

Similarly looking West in the afternoon when the light from the sun shines from the opposite direction and I can sit on a concrete retaining wall in front of the church.
