Commercial Street in downtown Nanaimo is probably the street with the most heritage buildings with Fitzwilliam Street a close second, where businesses flourish in buildings that originate from the beginning of the last century.

This picture shows  several popular retail stores, Artzi Stuff, Perkins Coffee, NYLA,  and Living Foods. All have common traits: contemporary approach to service and products, and managed by young people; good ingredients for success.

This week newly installed paystations  for roadside parking became operational, doing away with the remaining  2-hour free parking zones for most of downtown. It should be interesting to see how this pans out for the visitors and the local merchants.
