Plein-air pen and wash on paper

The Teak Tree

The Teak Tree is a furniture store located on the corner of Selby and Fitzwilliam Street in Nanaimo. It is part of a city block with a mixture of genuine heritage buildings and skilfully designed infill  units that maintain the character of the Old City Quarter ambience and enhance the street scape.

As the name suggests  the Teak Tree is a collection of fine furniture made of solid teak wood using both contemporary and classical designs; a feast for the eye and the odor of the wood finish  makes you want to linger and look over every item that is on display.

I have made several sketches on this intersection during the summer as a city bench on the corner provides a comfortable outdoor studio with a view down Fitzwilliam.

These are two pictures produced from photographs with the furniture store as the main subject.

These are  painted on  10″x 14″ or quarter sheets Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper, 140 lbs. cold pressed sheets. Photographic images were edited significantly to suit my design (needs) but such that the image is still recognizable  or accepted by a observer who walks frequently past here.
