Plein-air pen and wash on paper

Sunday Afternoon in the Library

The Library is a real asset for the people staying in downtown Nanaimo, particularly on a cold and rainy day like this Sunday.

I usually find myself a corner with a comfortable chair to read the weekend newspaper. After that it is time for some pen & ink sketches using any (probably unsuspecting) models that are sitting around. This time some colors were added using watercolor markers and a pentel brush pen. This combination is quite portable, it is inconspicuous and comes in handy. It works best on glossy cartridge paper.

The person sitting down on the left was actually standing up but walked away before the legs were drawn, so I tucked him in with a young lady who sat down with a cellphone to make it look like they were sitting down at the same time.  A standing person in the background was added to frame the main actors.
