Plein-air pen and wash on paper

The Library’s Second Floor.

The second floor of the library downtown looks out over Gordon Street with an arrangement of buildings that form an interesting city scape. However the patrons using the area to work or play with computers did not want me raising the venetian blinds to sketch the view, as the light interferes with the screens.

The choices for sketching became limited, so I decided to draw the interior with the people staring at the screens.

Notice that almost everyone wears a hat, cap or hood. At one time, many, many years ago, that was considered impolite; one had to remove headwear when entering a building where people were congregating.
