Plein-air pen and wash on paper

Home Made Sketchbook

Yesterday was the first round of the OneWeek100People2017 event. It kept me occupied for most of the time available to me for sketching. The result was posted on Instagram.

I also finished the sketch of my previous post with a watercolor wash.

The paper I used for this is Strathmore Aquarius ll, which has only an 80 Lbs nominal weight but stays fairly flat when it gets wet without taping it down on a rigid board. If one folds a full size sheet (30″×22″) in 8 sections and makes some incisions from opposite sides, it can be folded into an accordion to make a compact little sketchbook that is receptive to watercolours. A Google search of “watercolor accordion book” will yield a number of websites with detailed pictorial explanations providing several variations of this.
