Sketch-It

Plein-air pen and wash on paper

Painting Outside

Today, I found a spot in the sun and out of the wind along the waterfront; comfortable enough to paint and to try out my new easel. A sturdy old tripod and a plywood board connected with a quick release clip provides a reasonable setup for outdoor painting.

The first outing of the year takes some getting used too as the equipment is not in the usual place etcetera, but the enthusiasm and the fresh air makes up for it. This is a watercolour over a pen and ink sketch on 140# cold press Fabriano Artistico w/c paper. The little palette box that I used has different pigments  and layout than my larger box for painting inside; this a real impairment that needs to be addressed.

These are the same old boat houses from Stone’s marina that I go to every year and more than once. Only the boats that are moored here change occasionally as do the lighting conditions and the mood of the painter.
