Gerda’s Flowers

Gerda received the ‘Honour in Culture Award’ from the City of Nanaimo in a ceremony at the Port Theatre, last Thursday. This came with bundles of flowers, too many for our small apartment, so some ended up in the studio where I ventured to use them as a model.

First, this was sketched with a dip pen using brown ink, and then applying watercolour on Fabriano CP paper. It was an opportunity to use some bright colours.

The vase is sitting on a stool, which draws too much attention; should have turned it into a table. Actually there too many new things to deal with, but at least the flowers don’t move while one is drawing. If they don’t welt too soon, I may have some more fun with this little setup exploring a few other ideas.

  1. Great detail and lovely colors – I like using a dip pen too, but I haven’t used brown ink before
