Sketch-It

Plein-air pen and wash on paper

Newcastle Avenue

Today we went out to vote for the provincial elections. The voting station was located on top of the hill on Fitzwilliam so we took the car to get there and back before I started my bike ride for the day.

On the way back to downtown I found a nice spot to make a sketch of Newcastle Avenue; some houses, apartment buildings and a variety of trees.

A water brush was used to produce this picture; that is a plastic gizmo with a brush and a small water reservoir. These are quite nice to work with on small format (9″×12″), once you get used to it, except for the sky as the brushes are too small. One of them is a 1/2″ flat that could be used for detailing rectangular shaped items such as windows, in sketches on larger sizes of paper.

  1. Nice sketch John. I’m a Pentel water brush fan.
