Plein-air pen and wash on paper

St. Andrew’s Backside

St.Andrews is a landmark church in the old city Quarter in Nanaimo. It is difficult to get a picture from the front as one needs more distance on the other side of the street to get a normal perspective view, or look for a spot behind the building.

This morning I found a shady spot on a parking lot at some distance from the church with the rectory in front and parked cars from parishioners attending sunday services, I presume.

My position was somewhat lower than the road, so I was looking up at the cars on the other side. I sketched the scene first with a fountain pen and waterproof black ink. The picture was then finished by rendering the surfaces with watercolour.
